The logistics job market

The logistics sector is one of Germany’s future growth industries, and the Dortmund region has evolved into a center for this sector. The proportion of people employed in logistics is above average at 7 per cent. Add together everyone employed both directly or indirectly in the Dortmund logistics cluster, and this figure rises to 12 per cent. In the last six years alone, 3500 new jobs have been created in this sector.

Its dynamic growth offers attractive career development opportunities, because the range of jobs varies so widely: from truck drivers and warehouse staff in a small freight company to the manager of a “global player” in the logistics industry.

Besides the 640 Dortmund logistics companies that offer a multitude of training opportunities, Dortmund University represents one of the leading institutes of higher education in the field of logistics right on our doorstep. It was the first German university to develop a degree course in logistics.

On the following pages we will present the different opportunities available in Dortmund for professional qualification in the form of degree courses or apprenticeships. And companies should check out our Human Resources section for useful information about recruiting qualified staff.
